Caprece Burger

This recipe is one of my all time favorites. A spin-off of the Caprece salad,  I threw this together one evening and almost impressed myself!

Rich flavors of grilled onions, roasted garlic and fresh basil, it's like a meat salad with greater texture. 

​

If you're not a lover of basil, I like to recommend butter lettuce as another option. 

​

The melted mozzarella is just mild enough to allow the other flavors to shine through with its creamy goodness. 

​

I promise, this one won't disappoint! 

 

 

Ingredients:

​

  • 1 pound grass fed ground beef or bison

  • 1 medium heirloom tomato, sliced

  • 4 fresh, large basil leaves

  • 1/2 medium white onion, sliced 

  • 2 slices buffalo mozzarella 

  • 4 cloves roasted garlic

  • 1 teaspoon ghee or bacon grease

 

Directions:

Add ghee/bacon grease to skillet and heat to medium-high.  Add onion and saute until browned, set aside.

​

Form 4 patties and cook on medium-high in same skillet for approximately 4 minutes on each side for medium rare patty  (longer if no pink is desired in center) This recipe is also suitable for the BBQ.

 

Remove from heat

Top with  tomato slices, cheese, basil leaves, onions and garlic cloves
